Manassas

Manassas

Manassas is located just outside of Fairfax County, to the west of Centreville. Many of us first learned of Manassas in grade school. The First Battle of Manassas was the first major land battle of the American Civil War. This was in July of 1861. A subsequent battle was fought in Manassas one year later.

Historically speaking, Manassas has been a hotly contested area of land for some time. During the Civil War, Manassas served as a rail junction leading to Richmond, Washington, D.C. and the Shenandoah Valley. As a result of its connection to the railroads, Manassas flourished after the War. The town was incorporated in 1873. Nearly 100 years later, Manassas became an independent city.

Manassas is a suburban, mixed-use community with single-family houses, town homes and condominiums. It is ideally located just beyond Centreville off of I-66. The City of Manassas, which is located nearby, is a hub of activity.

Manassas offers many opportunities for play. There is an aquatic and fitness center, pools, parks and paths for all to enjoy. There is a public library and center for the arts as well. Manassas holds fairs, festivals and events annually to get residents and visitors out to socialize.
