Cherrydale - Maywood

Cherrydale - Maywood

The Cherrydale and Maywood neighborhoods are located in North Arlington, at the “five points” intersection, where Quincy Street, Military Road, Old Dominion Road meet and are bisected by Lee Highway. Cherrydale takes it name from a cherry orchard that was owned by Dorsey Donaldson. Donaldson’s family was one of the first to settle and farm the area in the 1780s.

Farming played a dominant role in Cherrydale through much of the 19th century. Settlement of the Cherrydale community increased after the American Civil War, when soldiers stationed in the surrounding areas decided to stay on with the land. The arrival of the Great Falls and Old Dominion Rail line in 1904 stimulated suburban growth. While the rail line has since been replaced with roadway, the trend of suburbanization has continued through the 20th century and into the new millennium. Cherrydale is listed on the National Register for Historic Houses.

Cherrydale and Maywood are quiet, unassuming communities with a distinct local flavor. Houses range from early post-Civil War era frame houses to modern, craftsmen style homes. Some are even from old Sears catalogues.

Maywood and Cherrydale have a unique neighborhood feel. There are ample amenities nearby, including grocery stores and local boutiques. The nearest metro stations are only a short drive or metro bus trip away.

Bicycle commuters can take advantage of the Custis Trail, which brings riders to Rosslyn or the Key Bridge. I-66 is just down Lee Highway. The Orange Line Metro can be picked up at Ballston, Virginia Square or Clarendon stations.
